ABOUT US
SeniorNet Whangarei Inc was first opened in 1997 by the Northland Business Development Trust. Today SeniorNet Whangarei Inc is run entirely by volunteers who willingly give their free time to help Seniors keep up with this new age of technology and the current membership is over 450. Our Club is a member of the SeniorNet Federation of New Zealand. Each SeniorNet club is run by its own committee elected by their own members. The Learning Centre is situated in the heart of Whangarei on the second floor of the James Cameron Building which is above Orrs Pharmacy. A lift is available for those who can’t negotiate the stairs. Classes are held on most weekdays from 10 - 12 am and 1 – 3 pm. It is manned most days but if no one is there, there is an information pamphlet in a container attached to the door. At SeniorNet Whangarei we aim to create a friendly environment for our students to learn in with others of a similar age. SeniorNet Whangarei holds a general meeting on the first Thursday of every month at The Kamo Club, Meldrum Street Kamo Whangarei at 1.30pm. (1st street on the right going north on Kamo Road after the Kamo traffic lights). A guest speaker is usually arranged and is always followed with a cuppa and a chance to catch up with others for a chat. This meeting is open to everyone so please come along and join us and bring a friend too. On the first Friday of every month we have what is known as ‘Coffee and Chat’ which is held at the Learning Centre from 1 – 3pm. Members and prospective members are invited to come and chat to the tutors that are on hand about any problems they might be having. This is also open to the public so feel free to drop in and see us. Every month a newsletter is sent out to all our members, this contains lots of useful information and tips and also contains a calendar of events for the following month. Application forms to join SeniorNet Whangarei Inc are available from the Learning Centre or by phoning Joe Cross on 435 5954 or 021 02341488.
